Difference between Update and Upgrade
🔄 Update
This is a minor change within the same major version of the program (e.g., 13.1 → 13.1.3).
Used to fix bugs, improve stability, or add small improvements.
Updates are free if you already own the current major version.
ProfiCAD automatically checks for available updates at every start. If one is available, it will offer to install it.
This mechanism never performs an upgrade, because not every user is interested. Reasons may include:
- Upgrade is paid, and the user postpones it due to cost,
- The current version is sufficient for the user,
- The user wants to stay compatible with others,
- The user does not yet see the benefits of the new version,
- They plan to upgrade later.
⬆️ Upgrade
This means a transition to a new major version of the program (e.g., version 12 → 13).
It brings major changes – new features, redesigned interface, etc.
Upgrade is paid, because it includes extensive improvements.
